Q&A with Dr. Winston

What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?

My favorite children’s series is Winnie-the-Pooh.

What is your favorite children's book?

My favorite children’s book is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland because I enjoyed sharing the fantasy and imagination of the story with my daughters.

What was your favorite childhood toy?

My favorite childhood toy was my bicycle.

Who is your greatest inspiration?

My wife as I trust her for her views and actions in life.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

My greatest inspiration is my four daughters and their families.

Outside of work, I enjoy music—playing the piano, listening to music, and creating music—as well as yoga, swimming, spending time by the ocean, and reading.

What inspired you to work in pediatrics?

I enjoy taking care of the whole child and their family. I particularly enjoy teaching about the stages of development with a focus on the huge range of normal, anticipatory guidance and the use of evidence based medicine. And of course treating successfully the many potential chronic and acute issues that are seen in a daily pediatric practice.

What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?

I see myself after 50 years of being a pediatrician of being in the enviable position of combining all that continuous experience and knowledge with a continuing awareness of the new growth and understandings that are part of the world of medicine. Most importantly I enjoy spending sufficient time with my families in making them satisfied with the visit.

How do you accommodate patients with special needs?

As pediatricians we are all trained to see all children. We are the advocates of children.
