Q&A with Jaspinderjit
What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?
Brave
What is your favorite children's book and why?
Diary of a Wimpy Kid, because it was my son’s favorite book. He enjoyed it so much that he read it multiple times. The story was funny and easy for him to relate to, which made reading enjoyable rather than a chore. The simple language and cartoons kept him engaged and motivated him to read more books on his own. It played an important role in developing his interest and confidence in reading
What was your favorite childhood toy?
I loved playing with dolls because they allowed me to use my imagination and creativity. I enjoyed dressing them up, creating stories, and caring for them as if they were real, which helped me practice empathy and storytelling from a young age
Who is your greatest inspiration and why?
My greatest inspiration is my husband. After moving to the United States following our marriage, life felt overwhelming, especially while raising two children. He believed in me even when I doubted myself and encouraged me to return to school. He supported me in every way-caring for our children, helping at home, and standing beside me through every challenge. Watching him work as a Physician Assistant in oncology, caring for patients with compassion and pride, inspired me deeply. Seeing the fulfillment on his face showed me the true meaning of service. Because of him, I found the strength to become a Nurse Practitioner, and I truly love this profession.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my two children. Even though they are both in college, we make it a priority to plan trips and visit different places whenever we have free time. I love cooking and baking for my family and friends, as it brings us together and allows me to express care through food. I also enjoy watching movies and playing Indian musical instruments whenever I get the chance, which helps me relax and stay connected to my culture.
What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
My inspiration to work in pediatrics comes from my own experience as a parent. Raising my children helped me understand the importance of early childhood development, preventive care, and compassionate guidance for families. I have seen firsthand how reassurance, education, and timely support can make a meaningful difference in a child’s health and well-being. This experience has shaped my passion for pediatrics and my desire to support children and their families during every stage of growth.
What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?
I provide a caring and friendly approach that helps children and parents feel comfortable. I listen carefully, explain things in simple terms, and make sure families feel heard and reassured. As a parent, I understand their concerns and work to build trust so families feel confident and supported in their child’s care
How do you accommodate patients with special needs?
Yes, I do. I make sure to understand each child’s needs and adjust my approach so they feel safe and comfortable. I use simple language, go at their pace, allow breaks if needed, and involve parents or caregivers
