Q&A with Dr. Kasamatsu
What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?
Finding Nemo, Ratatouille
What is your favorite children's book and why?
"The Rainbow Fish" is my favorite children's book, because it teaches that being inclusive and generous creates more bonds and lasting friendships than being sour grapes or selfish towards others.
What was your favorite childhood toy?
Barbie Dolls
Doll Houses
Who is your greatest inspiration and why?
My greatest inspiration is my mother Lillian. She was the strongest person I have ever met in both spirit, persistence, and courage. She left for the United States from Japan on a steamship alone (the first in her family) in order to study at an American university to seek better opportunities for herself. She lived until she was 94 and never gave up.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I enjoy time with my family, playing with our shiba inu dog Shohei, and traveling.
What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
I find joy when I work with children. It is my life's work to help heal those in pain or suffering, as well as help encourage youngsters to reach their top potential through excellent health, pursuit of activities that inspire them, and education. Moreover, I enjoy working with families in order to attain those goals for my young patients.
What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?
I feel I have the ability to provide the best and compassionate care for my patients, and strive to involve them (as well as their family) in their own healthcare needs and decisions. Having parented my two college-aged kids from the newborn period to now, I feel I have a deeper understanding and appreciation for the development of children through these important stages of their lives. I am honored to be a part of my patients' healthcare as they grow.
How do you accommodate patients with special needs?
Our office provides compassionate and competent care for those with special needs by providing proper communication channels, preparation for their arrival to our office, and being attuned to what is required to make them feel comfortable and managed appropriately.
