Established in Newport Beach in 2001, Coastal Kids has earned national acclaim for its comprehensive approach to pediatric health and medicine. Under the direction of Medical Director Steven Abelowitz, M.D., FAAP, Coastal Kids employs a highly skilled team of physicians trained in primary healthcare, preventative care, asthma and allergies, nutrition, breast-feeding support, growth and development, attention deficit disorder, adolescent health, adolescent gynecology and team sports. The ABC’s of Coastal Kids are Availability, Being Preventative and Communication.

When isn’t Coastal Kids open? Coastal Kids is open seven days a week and caters to stay-at-home parents to working professionals with families. Our staff is available 24 hours a day and extended office hours and weekend visits are available to patients who need immediate medical attention.

Coastal Kids offers peace of mind to OC families with the highest expectations in pediatric care. Each of the medical group’s managing physicians is Board Certified in Pediatrics, highly skilled and experts in their field. “We believe in hiring only the most educated and experienced doctors, but also doctors that are attentive, compassionate and nurturing,” said Dr. Abelowitz, multiple times nominated as Top Doctor of Orange County by Orange County Medical Association and his peers for 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010.

Most of the doctors have young growing families themselves and can relate easily to the patient population. The Newport Beach office has two full time physicians and two part time physicians. Dr.’s Abelowitz and Kristine Brown are full time. Dr. Elizabeth O’Connell, who is well known and has formerly practiced in Newport Beach for many years, now practices on a part time basis with Coastal Kids. Dr. Baron who practiced in Irvine for years and now also practices on a part time basis with coastal kids. The Laguna Niguel office physicians include Dr.’s Annique Jugant, Sandy Oak Lee and Elizabeth Dyer each working part time. The Ladera Ranch office physicians include Dr.’s Amy Cox and Lisa Teshke. Dr. Abelowitz practices in Newport Beach Monday through Thursday. He is in Laguna Niguel on Friday mornings, and in Ladera Ranch on Friday afternoons, so that he can continue to see his patients from South County closer to their homes.

Dr. Abelowitz, who was the recipient of Orange County Top Doctor Award for Physicians of Excellence in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010, came up with the concept for Coastal Kids after he and wife, Sima, had children of their own. “I wanted to create a pediatrics practice to serve families who were frustrated with the lack of availability and personal attention by their doctors,” Dr. Abelowitz said. “Our team of pediatrics health care professionals are highly trained and dedicated to providing their patients with the best possible treatment.”

With four state-of-the-art facilities along Southern California’s scenic coastlines, Coastal Kids ongoing mission is to provide only the highest level of pediatric medical services in an attentive and hospitable environment at its four Orange County locations, Newport Beach, Laguna Niguel, Ladera Ranch and Irvine. The privately-owned medical group offers extended office hours, including early morning and evening appointments, as well as weekend visits for patients who require immediate medical attention. Coastal Kids’ affiliations include Hoag Memorial Hospital, Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center and Children’s Hospital at Mission.
